lost tooth and other big events for Porter

Today Porter lost his first tooth. It has been a highly anticipated event. It has been loose for several weeks. This week though, Porter seemed to sense the day was coming soon. On Friday, he asked me what would happen if he yanked his tooth out. I thought he wanted to know if it would hurt. His actual concern was getting his money. Someone at daycare had told him that if you yank a tooth, the toothfairy won't come right away, but if you just let it fall out on its own, the toothfairy would come that night. Yesterday, he told me he thought he would lose his tooth by today. He wiggled it and wiggled it until it finally came out tonight. We were playing Wii when it just popped out. Dallin was too excited to play anymore. He wanted to count Porter's teeth now. Joe told Porter that the toothfairy doesn't come on Sundays though and we would report to her and she would bring him money tomorrow.

Porter could not fall asleep tonight because he was so excited about the tooth. He told me that he was kind of excited about growing up because he liked losing teeth. He "likes molders" and is happy to get them. I wasn't sure what "molders" were. He explained that they are your grownup teeth. I told him that "molars" are in the back but he would be getting a grownup or permanent tooth in the front. I asked him how much the toothfairy was going to pay him for the tooth. He said that the toothfairy usually brings $1 for each tooth unless you are very good and then you get $2. He believes he will probably get $1. I guess we will see tomorrow.

A couple of weeks ago, Porter decided to buy himself some new Legos. He had been saving his money for quite a while and loves, loves Legos. (Getting paid a dollar per goal in soccer helped a lot too). He had about $25 built up. We also got a coupon in the mail from Toys R Us and they were having a sale on Legos so we all went down there. When we got there, they had some off brand of Legos that had Halo and Iron Man sets on special. If you bought one of the big sets, you got the second half off and you got a smaller one free. They aren't real Legos so Joe and Porter considered their merits for a while before deciding to give them a try. For under $30, Porter got these three sets that he really likes. They even fit with the other Legos. He spent hours working on putting them together. I was proud of him for saving his money for something. I am not a good money saver and I know they temptation to spend was great. Joe and I even kicked in the extra $5 to buy the fake legos to reward him for saving. Dallin also had about $6 and he bought a monster truck with changeable wheels. You can see him in the background of the picture, he is chasing the truck after pushing it across the kitchen floor. (Notice how both boys are wearing their soccer shirts in this picture and the lost tooth picture, even though the season is over, they still want to wear their soccer clothes all the time).
Finally, today was the Primary Program. Primary programs are usually pretty great things. I always like watching them. This year, Porter had a part and Dallin's class said a line together. Porter said his part clearly, without getting overly nervous. Porter also sang all the songs and sat (relatively) relevantly for the whole program. When it was Dallin's class's turn, Dallin was the only who said the part. I asked him why he didn't wait for the others and he said they wouldn't do it. Dallin also sang most of the songs and didn't even make any of his funny little faces because he was so nervous. I did catch him rolling up his shirt so until his whole stomach and chest were exposed a couple of times. I don't think he was doing it on purpose though. I think it was just an involuntary nervous kind of twitch. It made me laugh though.

  1. Gavin has been anxiously waiting for Porter's tooth to fall out as well. He is jealous that most of his friends are losing teeth and he is not. I try to convince him that the longer they are in the better, but he won't buy it.

  2. Ah! tooth! no way can he be that old, I still think of him as 4, because that's the last way I knew him! Growing up way too fast! I think I'll cry when carter starts losing teeth!

  3. Wow, Porter is getting so big! He's had lots of big events happening recently!
I was wondering who said the Sunbeam part. I thought it was Cameron. Brooklyn knew it well, I just don't think she knew when to say it. In fact, I wasn't even looking over there and it happened so fast that I missed it! :)

  4. I love that you are teaching your boys about money. It will certainly "pay off" for them in the future.
