lost tooth and other big events for Porter

Today Porter lost his first tooth. It has been a highly anticipated event. It has been loose for several weeks. This week though, Porter seemed to sense the day was coming soon. On Friday, he asked me what would happen if he yanked his tooth out. I thought he wanted to know if it would hurt. His actual concern was getting his money. Someone at daycare had told him that if you yank a tooth, the toothfairy won't come right away, but if you just let it fall out on its own, the toothfairy would come that night. Yesterday, he told me he thought he would lose his tooth by today. He wiggled it and wiggled it until it finally came out tonight. We were playing Wii when it just popped out. Dallin was too excited to play anymore. He wanted to count Porter's teeth now. Joe told Porter that the toothfairy doesn't come on Sundays though and we would report to her and she would bring him money tomorrow.

Porter could not fall asleep tonight because he was so excited about the tooth. He told me that he was kind of excited about growing up because he liked losing teeth. He "likes molders" and is happy to get them. I wasn't sure what "molders" were. He explained that they are your grownup teeth. I told him that "molars" are in the back but he would be getting a grownup or permanent tooth in the front. I asked him how much the toothfairy was going to pay him for the tooth. He said that the toothfairy usually brings $1 for each tooth unless you are very good and then you get $2. He believes he will probably get $1. I guess we will see tomorrow.

A couple of weeks ago, Porter decided to buy himself some new Legos. He had been saving his money for quite a while and loves, loves Legos. (Getting paid a dollar per goal in soccer helped a lot too). He had about $25 built up. We also got a coupon in the mail from Toys R Us and they were having a sale on Legos so we all went down there. When we got there, they had some off brand of Legos that had Halo and Iron Man sets on special. If you bought one of the big sets, you got the second half off and you got a smaller one free. They aren't real Legos so Joe and Porter considered their merits for a while before deciding to give them a try. For under $30, Porter got these three sets that he really likes. They even fit with the other Legos. He spent hours working on putting them together. I was proud of him for saving his money for something. I am not a good money saver and I know they temptation to spend was great. Joe and I even kicked in the extra $5 to buy the fake legos to reward him for saving. Dallin also had about $6 and he bought a monster truck with changeable wheels. You can see him in the background of the picture, he is chasing the truck after pushing it across the kitchen floor. (Notice how both boys are wearing their soccer shirts in this picture and the lost tooth picture, even though the season is over, they still want to wear their soccer clothes all the time).
Finally, today was the Primary Program. Primary programs are usually pretty great things. I always like watching them. This year, Porter had a part and Dallin's class said a line together. Porter said his part clearly, without getting overly nervous. Porter also sang all the songs and sat (relatively) relevantly for the whole program. When it was Dallin's class's turn, Dallin was the only who said the part. I asked him why he didn't wait for the others and he said they wouldn't do it. Dallin also sang most of the songs and didn't even make any of his funny little faces because he was so nervous. I did catch him rolling up his shirt so until his whole stomach and chest were exposed a couple of times. I don't think he was doing it on purpose though. I think it was just an involuntary nervous kind of twitch. It made me laugh though.

first people

I took the boys to Red Robin last week and there was a picture of Mount Rushmore on the wall. The boys recognized it from when we were there and were excited to see it. Dallin wanted to know when they would finish the bodies and legs of the people on the mountain. I told him probably never. Porter chimed in, "yeah Dallin, because they had legs just like everybody else and their bodies looked like ours. They wanted us to know what their faces looked like because they were alive before anyone else." Then he thought for a minute and remembered that Adam and Eve were the first people. The people on Mount Rushmore might have been like the 11th people on the earth. Dallin then added that we were the last people on the earth. I said that we were so far but I hope we aren't, I hope there will be more people after us. Porter said we were probably the 100th people on earth or something.

funny stories and naughtiness

Porter has taken up with funny explanations of things again. Continuing with his sensitivity toward the elderly (you may remember he would always loudly opine, in front of senior citizens, that they were old and would be dead soon), Porter was asking me why old people walk funny. I asked him what he meant and he showed the little waddle/shuffle that you sometimes see older people doing. I told him that sometimes old people's knees and hips stop working good so it is hard for them to walk. He said that they walk like penguins. He also told me that he saw an old person at the doctor's once who only had one leg. He said, "there wasn't even any blood coming out and she didn't have a bone anymore."

I spent most of Monday and Tuesday with the boys looking for costumes. Porter wanted to be a ninja again and quickly found a costume he liked. Dallin had several ideas of what he wanted to be though. I like to think he is just really creative. He wanted to be a fire Batman, a Superman with a Batman cape and red goggles, a dinosaur with one horn on top (there actually is such a dinosaur, he saw it in a book, I can't remember what it is called right now), and a soccer ball. Every costume required a sword too. Finally, he saw a vampire bat costume that he liked but it didn't come in his size. He would not settle for anything less than to be a vampire bat with a sword. We had to go to every Halloween store in the Salt Lake valley before we finally found the vampire bat in his size (well, almost his size, it is a medium, so we had to cut down the legs). Dallin keeps standing on the couch, wearing his costume and flapping his wings, trying to fly. He was telling me that when the trees and grass move (i.e. the wind is blowing) then he will be able to fly outside. Porter disagrees. He told Dallin that he couldn't fly because (1) he was not a real vampire bat, (2) real vampire bats move their wings so fast they make wind, and (3) he is too heavy. Dallin still thinks he can fly and has been trying to move his arms faster to get up in the air. He also likes to wear the costume and try to scare the cats.

I took the boys to Golden Corral today for lunch. They had been behaving badly but I figured it was mostly because they were hungry. As Dallin was eating, he said, "this is making me feel better, I don't feel so grumpy." That seemed like good news until he needed to go to the bathroom. Once we got in there, he was mostly fine, though he tried to fill the toliet with toliet paper. I told him he had to wash his hands and that really upset him though. He started screaming and crying. I tried to make him wash his hands, he cried louder. I told him we were going back to the table, he insisted there was still soap on his hands and refused to leave. It culimated with me carrying him back to the table kicking and screaming. As soon as I put him down, he ran crying back to the bathroom. I found him sitting on the floor crying, blocking the bathroom door, while people gathered around him to try to see if he was lost, etc. Little booger. I had to drag him back screaming to the table a second time. He finally settled down because he wanted to have dessert. While we were in the bathroom though, the people at the table next to us must have figured that we left because they stacked all their dirty dishes on our table. When we came back, they didn't take the dishes back or anything. They just pretended it wasn't them and avoided looking at me. I was kind of annoyed. It was disgusting to have someone else's dirty dishes sitting on our table.

soccer

Porter and Dallin played soccer again. Joe coached Porter's team. They were the Red Devils Porter is shaping up to a good little soccer player. He scored more goals in his first game than he scored the whole last season. I am impressed with Joe as a coach. He is very patient and good with the kids.

Dallin was on the blue dragons. He had a very nice coach too. We knew him in a round about sort of way. Dallin's coach has a son named Logan who played on Porter's team when they were the blue dragons. Logan's younger brother, Luke, was on Dallin's team and Luke's dad coached. Dallin loves it and tries very hard. He doesn't quite have it figured out yet though. He kicks the ball well at practice, but he doesn't like to get the ball during games. Oh well, he will improve.
