gymnastics tournament

yesterday was Porter's gynmastics tournament. Dallin is not old enough to participate yet. Porter was very excited about it and was pleased with his trophy.

Sunday morning

this is how my Sunday morning went:

4:00am - Porter and Dallin carrying blankets come and poke me awake. "Mom, we are scared, come lay behind us." I fall asleep on the floor in their room.

7:30am - Dallin: "Ole McDontald had a farm on dat farm der was a cow e i e i o. GO AWAY POOHBALL! GO AWAY POOH! GO AWAY POOH! Mom, I pooped."

8:00am - (after changing said poopy boy, getting him juice, etc., and trying to go back to sleep). Dallin: "Mom Ilay by you. . . . Mom, I hiding." More singing.
Mom: Dallin go away, I'm still tired, go watch tv with dad."
Dallin: "I not want to. I need juice. . . Mom, get me water."
Mom: "Dallin go ask Dad to help you."
Dallin: "No, I not like Dad." Dallin leaves and goes into the living room
Dallin: "Porter, you get me water."
Porter: "get your own water Blue."
Dallin: "I can't, see." (demonstrates how he can't reach the water). Porter then gets Dallin a cup of water. Dallin drinks it and spills on himself
Dallin: "Mom, I all soaked. I want candy."
Mom: "No Dallin."
Dallin: "Mom, get me gummy worms."
Mom: "No Dallin." Dallin goes back into the living room
Dallin: "Porter, you get me gummy worms."
Porter: "I can't reach them Dallin."
Dallin: "You try."
Porter: "I can't get them without a chair."
Dallin: "yeah, you get chair"
Porter: "okay." (Porter pushes a chair over and gets the gummy worms out. He and Dallin eat the rest of the bag.)

9:00am - (after I have fallen back asleep) crash, bang, smash noises. Porter crying uncontrollably. Porter has a bump on his head from running into the wall. I wake up for good.

crib

Joe took down Dallin's crib yesterday. Although Dallin hasn't slept there in months, it still makes me sad. I can't believe that the crib is gone. It has been up for more than four years because Porter moved to a big boy bed after Dallin was born and so Dallin moved right in. At least Joe didn't give it away (yet). Plus, I used to threaten Dallin with sleeping in the "baby bed" when he wouldn't behave and quit kicking/poking/bothering Porter in bed. I don't know what to threaten now.

Temple

Last Saturday, we went to the Oquirrah Mountain temple open house. Porter liked the baptisimal font and inspected it to see if it had water in it. Dallin liked the paintings on the walls. He kept yelling, "mom, it mountains!!." After we were done and were walking to the car, Dallin yelled, "dat was awesome." I forgot to bring my camera, but took a couple of pictures with my phone in reception tent. Dallin really wanted a picture and, unfortunately, his came out blurry, but here it is just the same.

blood suckers

Porter and Dallin got bit by mosquitos on Tuesday. I saw one go for Porter's neck and smacked it away. Porter wondered what had happened I explained that a mosquito had tried to bite him. He had a lot of questions. He learned that they don't have scary teeth and that they like to eat blood. That night, he told Joe all about being bitten. According to Porter, the mosquito landed on his neck and wanted to drink his blood. It drank until it was full and they flew away. Now Porter doesn't have much blood left. He also had a blister on his ankle that popped and was hurting him. He attributed that injury to a mosquito as well.

Dad-Faces

Porter and Dallin went to the children's museum with their friends Vanessa and Chase on Tuesday. We like to take the little classes there for their age group. (The class is just a story and a project). Because it is June, we read a book about dads and then the project was to make a face that looked like their dad's. These are the heads that Porter and Dallin made (if you are wondering why Porter's face is odd, it is because he thought he was supposed to draw his Dad's whole body on that head-shaped cutout). Both boys put a lot of effort into theirs. Porter cut out each piece of the hair. Porter was worried that Joe would say it was silly, but when presented with the heads, Joe was appropriately impressed.

On another note, Porter had his first "play-date" where I dropped him off at someone's house. Because of my work schedule, etc. he has never done that before and was a little nervous. In the car, I told him that he would have to listen the little boy's mom while he was there. Porter said, "but what will she say? Will Gavin have to listen too?" It ended up working out all right though. Porter had a very good time and talked all night about the toys Gavin had and the things they had done. Porter asked if he could sleep at Gavin's house from now on because Gavin has a bunkbed and then I could just pick him up in the mornings.

jealousy cont.

A while ago, I ordered Porter and Dallin shirts that said "big brother" and "little brother." When they came, Porter's was way too big and so I just stowed them under the bed (intending to return Porter's for a better size and never got around to). I thought they hadn't seen the shirts until Dallin woke up yesterday and said he wanted to wear his "brother" shirt. I got it out for him and then Porter wanted to wear one too. After much effort to get him to wear something else, etc., I ended up cutting up the brother shirt and safety pinning the picture to another shirt. I wonder what they must have thought of his outfit at daycare.

Airshow

Joe and I took Porter and Dallin to the airshow on Saturday. The boys were pretty excited to see the airplanes and air force guys (Joe might have been the most excited though). The boys even wore their "army" shirts for the event. It was a nice day out, not too hot or anything, but we had to park quite a ways away and Porter and Dallin both got tired. We ended up carrying them a lot. Next year, I will bring a wagon or something (and food so we don't have to wait in the food lines and only end up with a churro for lunch).

Seeing the monster truck may have been the highlight for them though. If only they could have gotten in it. Porter was also excited about getting a toy. I think we don't need to take him anywhere anymore, just to gift shops. He ended up breaking his airplane that night at my cousin's daugter's wedding. He broke Dallin's helicopter later. Joe has since superglued the planes back together. Hopefully, they will hold up.

jealousy

Apparently Dallin was jealous of Porter's facial injuries and decided to try to match them by face-planting at daycare. He could quite get the forehead right, but the nose and cheek are pretty close

Dallin gets older

Dallin has begun wearing pull-ups to daycare. He said he is too big to wear diapers anymore. He is pretty inconsistent about potty use at home, but apparently he is excellent at daycare. The director told me on Friday that Dallin is "too smart" for the two year old class and they would like to move him up to the three year olds. He is willing to try even though he is "two still." Once Porter completes his transition to the four year old class (which is going much more smoothly then when they tried to move him this winter), then Dallin is going to try the three year old class. Porter has already been giving him tips (telling him who is naughty and should be avoided, how fun the three-year old playground is, etc.)

Dallin still hates to go to bed. If he hears you say anything that even remotely hints that it might be bed time, he starts yelling, "it not time go bed. It not dark out."

emergencies

Porter has had two major "emergencies" of late. Two days ago, "someone" put his lego guy in the fish tank with Purple. Porter could tell that Purple was so scared that he couldn't wait for mom to come and get the lego out so Porter had to take swift action. Luckily, Porter got the lego out before Purple started to cry and there was only minimal water spilled.
The second event happened on Saturday. Porter got up before Dallin and I (after Joe had gone to work) and came to wake me up. It didn't work and I fell back asleep as soon as he stopped nudging me. About a half and hour later, I woke up to Porter screaming at me that I had to get up. He was too scared to be up by himself. He has seen "something with fuzzy ears" in the kitchen and "it was not Pooh cat." We looked, but couldn't find the monster anywhere. I guess he ran off when he heard a grownup coming.
